I have a L.A. Sax Big Lip, and I love the sound. It's bright but not too edgy, and it's a beautiful sax for the price. I'm using a Link Supertone 8 and Hard Rico Plasticovers. I've found that the plasticovers help to keep the brightness under control. Though, I wouldn't say their build is the best.

Middle D is a problem for a lot of saxophones. It can be very sharp (10 to 20 cents) and can be "stuffy." To flatten it out you can hold the left hand pinky B or Bb key. You may also be able to flatten it a bit by changing your embouchure for that note (and the Eb too).The rails might be just slightly thicker on the S+, but I didn't notice any change in the feel of the piece. The only big difference I can see between the S and S+ is the chamber. As far as sound, the S+ definitely has more body in the tone to my ears, mainly in the upper range and altissimo.
